Care after a dental implant

The first days after a dental implant are key to good healing. This care helps you recover without setbacks.
The first 24-48 hours
- Apply cold on the outside to reduce swelling.
- Avoid vigorous rinsing and don't spit forcefully.
- Rest and avoid intense exercise.
- Take your medications exactly as the specialist indicated.
Diet
Prefer soft, lukewarm foods the first days: warm soups, purees, yogurt. Avoid anything very hot, hard or spicy, and don't chew on the implant side until told.
Hygiene
Keep your mouth clean carefully. Brush the rest of your teeth normally and follow the instructions for the operated area; sometimes a special rinse is recommended for a few days.
Warning signs
Some swelling and discomfort is normal. Contact us if intense pain that doesn't subside, heavy bleeding, fever or growing swelling appears after the third day.
Following the first days' instructions to the letter protects the success of your implant.
Avoid smoking
Tobacco is one of the main enemies of healing and osseointegration. Reducing or avoiding smoking greatly improves your implant's prognosis.
