When a tooth is missing there are several ways to replace it. The three most common are the implant, the fixed bridge and the removable denture. Each has its place.

Dental implant

It's the option that most resembles a natural tooth and doesn't require touching neighboring teeth. It preserves bone and, well cared for, lasts many years. Its initial cost is higher.

Fixed bridge

It replaces the tooth by relying on the neighboring teeth, which are ground down to place crowns. It's fixed and aesthetic, but it compromises healthy teeth.

Removable denture

It's the lowest initial-cost option and useful when several teeth are missing. It's removed to clean and can feel less stable than fixed options.

There's no 'best' option for everyone: there's a best one for your case, your bone and your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Which lasts longest?

The implant is usually the most durable option when well cared for, followed by the fixed bridge.

Which best protects my other teeth?

The implant, because it doesn't require grinding down neighboring teeth like the bridge does.

Is the removable a bad option?

No. It's valid and accessible, especially when several pieces are missing or as a transitional solution.
