When a tooth is missing there are several ways to replace it. The three most common are the **implant**, the **fixed bridge** and the **removable denture**. Each has its place.

## Quick comparison

| Criterion | Implant | Fixed bridge | Removable |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Fixed in the mouth | Yes | Yes | No (removable) |
| Grinds neighboring teeth | No | Yes | No |
| Preserves bone | Yes | Partial | No |
| Durability | Very long | Long | Medium |
| Initial cost | $$$ | $$ | $ |

## Dental implant

It's the option that most resembles a natural tooth and doesn't require touching neighboring teeth. It preserves bone and, well cared for, lasts many years. Its initial cost is higher.

## Fixed bridge

It replaces the tooth by relying on the neighboring teeth, which are ground down to place crowns. It's fixed and aesthetic, but it compromises healthy teeth.

## Removable denture

It's the lowest initial-cost option and useful when several teeth are missing. It's removed to clean and can feel less stable than fixed options.

> There's no 'best' option for everyone: there's a best one for your case, your bone and your budget.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which lasts longest?

The implant is usually the most durable option when well cared for, followed by the fixed bridge.

### Which best protects my other teeth?

The implant, because it doesn't require grinding down neighboring teeth like the bridge does.

### Is the removable a bad option?

No. It's valid and accessible, especially when several pieces are missing or as a transitional solution.

### Choose the best option for you

Book your assessment and define it with a specialist, based on your case and budget.
