Fear that a **dental cleaning** will hurt makes many people put it off. The reality: a routine prophylaxis is comfortable and quick. Here's what to expect.

## Does it hurt?

A regular cleaning **usually doesn't hurt**. You may feel the ultrasound's vibration, a bit of cold from the water or specific sensitivity if your gums are inflamed. Nothing unmanageable.

## Why does the gum sometimes bleed?

If your gums bleed during cleaning, it's almost always a sign of **inflammation** (gingivitis) from plaque buildup, not that the cleaning is aggressive. As the gum's health recovers, the bleeding disappears.

## What the process is like

1. Check-up of teeth and gums.
2. Tartar removal with ultrasound and instruments.
3. Polishing to leave the surface smooth.
4. Fluoride application if indicated and recommendations.

## If you have sensitivity

If you're sensitive, let us know: we adjust the technique and, in deep cleanings, use local anesthesia for your comfort. The goal is a calm experience.

> The gum bleeding isn't a reason not to clean: it's precisely the reason to do it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does cleaning wear down the enamel?

No. The ultrasound and polishing remove tartar and plaque without damaging healthy enamel.

### Is sensitivity afterward normal?

There may be mild, temporary sensitivity, especially if there was a lot of tartar or inflammation.

### Why do my gums bleed?

It usually indicates gingivitis from plaque. With cleaning and good hygiene, the bleeding subsides.
