How to care for and clean your removable denture

By the Smile Experts clinical team · September 18, 2026 · 4 min read
Professional cleaning of a dental denture

A clean removable denture lasts longer, looks better and protects your mouth's health. The routine is simple but must be daily.

Daily cleaning

  1. Remove the denture and rinse it after eating.
  2. Brush it with a denture brush and mild soap (not abrasive toothpaste).
  3. Also clean your gums, tongue and natural teeth.
  4. Soak it in a cleaning solution as indicated.

What to avoid

Night rest

It's generally recommended to remove the denture at night so the tissues rest and to prevent infections such as candidiasis. Store it clean and in water or the indicated solution.

A denture is cared for like your teeth: every day, no exceptions.

Periodic check-ups

Over time, the mouth changes and the denture may need adjustments or a reline. Attending check-ups avoids rubbing, improves the fit and extends its useful life.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use normal toothpaste?

Better not: most are abrasive. Use mild soap or specific denture cleaners.

How often do I soak it in cleaner?

Depending on the product and instructions, usually daily or several times a week.

Why does it sometimes smell bad?

From plaque and fungus buildup. Constant cleaning and night rest prevent it.
